Project summary: Repairs to the Newport Equestrian Trail

Project location: City of Orange, CA

Client: Keystone Properties

Project Completion Date: 8/10/11

Project Details: The Newport Equestrian Trail runs parallel to Newport Blvd. from just east of Chapman Avenue, to 200′ east of Skylark Street. The section we repaired is approximately 3/4 mile in length. The trail was eroded and had become concaved and rutted. The trail was lacking proper drainage, and with each rainstorm, more soil was eroding away. Several truckloads of decomposed granite were imported to raise the trail tread. Also, several drainage dips have been added to allow rain and irrigation water to properly drain from the trail to prevent future erosion.

Existing trail was eroded

Existing trail was lacking proper drainage

Some areas of the trail had water trapped on the trail and would get muddy from the sprinklers and rain water.

After repairs

Several Truck loads of Decomposed Granite (DG) were imported, Spread and then the trail was graded to allow for proper drainage.

Raised and sloped the trail
